Overview

MHA is seeking an adjunct (15 hours per week) Family Peer Advocate in the Home and Community Based Waiver (HCBW) Program, to provide peer support to families raising a child who is experiencing social, emotional, developmental, substance use and/or behavioral challenges in their home, school, placement, or community. Applicants must uniquely qualify to work with families based on their own personal experience parenting a child with similar needs. This advocate will develop a structured, strength-based relationship with the parent or family member for the benefit of the child. Responsibilities can include, but are not limited to, providing outreach and information, Empowerment, Parent Skill Development, promoting effective family-driven practices and completing necessary paperwork required by programs.

Some weekend & evenings hours required. Training will be provided.

Responsibilities

Applicants must uniquely qualify to work with families based on their own personal experience parenting a child with similar needs. This advocate will:

  • Develop a structured, strength-based relationship with the parent or family member for the benefit of the child.

  • Promoting effective family-driven practices
  • Completing necessary paperwork required by programs.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must uniquely qualify to work with families based on their own personal experience parenting a child with similar needs. 
  • Candidates must have a clean, valid NYS driver’s license with at least 3 years driving experience, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel throughout Ulster County.
  • Excellent written and oral communication are required.
  • The position also requires strong organization/planning skills, interpersonal skills and time management abilities.
  • A HS Diploma or GED is required.
